  Allessandro Dell'Acqua
Debuted in 1996 and known for shimmering dresses in nude or black and for using lace and knitwear, his collections have complicated constructions under a seeming simplicity.

 

  Antonio Fusco
Brings the poise of the male wardrobe into female fashion, the Milano jacket and Montecarlo overcoat are staples of his collections which have a smooth Italian glamour and accentuate womanly lines.

 

  Dolce & Gabbana
Founded in 1982 by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, this mega brand presents clothes that make show-stopping statements with rich Mediterranean colours and provocative styling.
 
  Emilio Pucci
His trademark bold and colourful kaleidoscopic prints appear throughout the evening wear and ready to wear collections. Since Emilio's death in 1992, creative control has passed to younger designers including Christian Lacroix and Matthew Williamson.
 
  Fendi
Founded as a fur and leather shop in 1918 and now part of the LVMH group, chief designer Karl Lagerfield made the brand famous for the 'baguette' bag and for gowns with a super glamorous look and fur accoutrements.
 
  Gianfranco Ferre
His first collection debuted in 1978 and the brand's signature style is sculptural with precise masculine tailoring. Gianfranco died in 2007 and the brand continues as part of the IT Holdings group.
 
  Giorgio Armani
Famous in the 1980's for the power suit and the fashion choice of Hollywood celebrities like Michelle Pfeiffer and Jodie Foster, this Italian fashion power house still packs a punch on the runway with the Giorgio Armani Prive label's cool statement designs. The ready to wear and menswear lines offer a contemporary smart nonchalant look.
 
  Gucci
Revitalised by Tom Ford between 1990 and 2004, now part of the PPR group and under the creative direction of Frida Giannini, the largest selling Italian fashion brand features sexy show-off layers and accessories that use the signature double G logo and Gucci horsebit.
 
  Laura Biagiotti
Focuses on the innovative use of fabrics and yarns, her collections are famous for their use of Mongolian cashmere and Chinese silk, and her innovative fabrics are embellished by metallic glimmers of gold, silver and platinum and lurex and laminated effects.
 
  Missoni
Feted for their use of bright colours in dots, stripes, signs and shapes, their collections present a dazzling display that uses all the colours of the rainbow to opulent, hypnotic effect.
 
  Moschino
Established by the late Franco Moschino, the team continues his style of classic creations with a playful twist, fabulous dresses and jackets that are both fun and wearable.
 
  Prada
Established in 1913 as a handbag and suitcase manufacturer, the brand was extended into couture under Miuccia Prada in the late 70's becoming a powerful force from the 90's with its luxurious fabrics, pure colours and simple elegant styling.
 
  Renato Balestra
Designs around thirty ranges including haute couture, ready to wear and menswear collections, his couture collections feature light and sophisticated fabrics with a graceful, tapering silhouette.
 
  Roberto Cavalli
Pushing the frontiers of fashion with new techniques and style motifs, his collections often have a vivid sexy flamboyance and appeal to the likes of Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Charlize Theron.
 
  Rocco Barocco
Launched in 1974 and popular with the glitterati of that time, his distinctive collections are daring and dazzling, shimmering and sumptuous.
 
  Salvatore Ferragamo
Shoemaker to Hollywood stars, the House now also makes couture, gloves, scarves and handbags. The womenswear collections are now under the control of Christina Ortiz.
 
  Valentino
Named after designer Valentino Garavani who retired in 2007 and now part of the Valentino Fashion Group which includes Hugo Boss, the brand produces highly detailed red carpet couture and high end ready-to-wear collections under the direction of Alessandra Facchinetti.
 
  Versace
Founded in 1978 by Gianni Versace and after his murder in 1997 under the direction of his sister Donatella, the brand's signature style is flamboyant sexiness with sensuous fabrics, revealing cuts and electric colours.
